Family Support - Salmo

Provides parent and child activities and support.
The following programs are offered:
  • Family Support: Family support is provided for families who are experiencing challenges related to parenting and family stability. Service provision can occur in office, in the family home, or in community.
  • Baby Group: This group is open to all parents with children under 18 months. It is a casual, drop-in, support group, where parents bring their baby and interact with other parents and children.
  • Community Action Plan for Children (CAPC): Program serves families in Salmo and Ymir, B.C., offering free weekly activities for children ages 0-6 and their caregivers. CAPC provides a welcoming environment for families to connect and build friendships while engaging in age-appropriate activities like storytelling, crafts, music, and games. The program also includes educational workshops for caregivers and regular visits from local resources, such as a speech pathologist, dental hygienist, Indigenous children’s programming, and the Salmo Children’s Librarian.
CAPC Programs Offered:

Ymir Family Groups:
  • Morning Birds: Tuesdays, 10:00 -11:15 AM at Ymir Hall
  • Poppies: Tuesdays, 1:00 - 2:15 PM at Ymir Hall
Both groups offer story time, crafts, movement, and song activities, as well as bi-weekly visits from the Children’s Librarian.

Salmo Groups:
  • Play with Me: Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Salmo Valley Youth & Community Center. Activities include storytelling, art, songs, and outdoor play in the warmer months. A public health nurse also visits monthly.
