Home Oxygen Program - Island Health

Provides oxygen therapy to eligible residents in the Island Health region.
The Home Oxygen Program (HOP) is a funding program for patients in our community who require supplemental oxygen in their homes. Oxygen equipment is provided to patients by an Island Health approved oxygen supplier, and Respiratory Therapists provide periodic assessments and oxygen titration.

Oxygen Therapy Provided at Home for Eligible Clients With:
  • Asthma
  • Emphysema
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Occupational lung disease
  • Lung cancer
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Congestive heart failure
*In order to receive coverage for home oxygen, patients must meet the criteria.


How to Access
  • Requests for home oxygen service are made by a physician on behalf of the client.
  • To apply for a Home Oxygen Program subsidy, a copy of the application will need to be completed and signed by a physician or a nurse practitioner.
  • The signed application will then be faxed directly to the approved Home Oxygen Program oxygen supplier (see below for Hospital vs. Community HOP Applications).
