Provides low-cost dental surgery (oral surgery), including procedures such as tooth extractions.
The Elk Valley Hospital performs dental surgery (tooth extractions), biopsies, and restorative services (fillings) through a hospital-based program designed to make essential care accessible to children and adults with complex needs.

Patient Eligibility and Referrals
  • Consultations and treatment are available for both children and adults in a specialized hospital environment. A referral from a medical or dental professional is required
Financial Assistance and Coverage
  • Elk Valley Hospital accepts most dental insurance plans, including the Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP), BC Healthy Kids Program, First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), and Jordan’s Principle.
Eligibility for Hospital-Based Dental Treatment
  • Children (12 years and under) requiring extensive restorative dental rehabilitation that cannot be safely managed in a clinical setting or where treatment would exceed one hour in duration.
  • Patients with severe physical or developmental disabilities that prevent treatment under local anesthesia, or those with a documented contraindication to local anesthetic.
  • Patients requiring MSP-insured dental surgery, such as complex or multiple extractions, impactions, or oral biopsies, that must be performed under general anesthesia for safety.
Services Not Currently Offered:
  • Root canal therapy is not currently available through the hospital dental surgery program.
