Offers a range of employment training programs.
From employment readiness programs and supports to training opportunities, the KCDS team helps both job seekers and employers meet their goals. The following programs are offered:
- Smart Launch: A young adult (ages 17-29) employment program offering free training and certifications. Also provides access to financial support for work clothing, footwear and transportation. Participants need to be living in the Trail, Salmo, Castlegar and Slocan area and be either unemployed, underemployed or precariously employed.
- Fast Forward: A new employment program for young adults (15-30) looking for work in the ski/snowboard industry, hospitality and resort management, or outdoor recreation. Gain the skills and certifications needed to work in these industries! This is a free program delivered online, with limited in-person services in Trail. Participants must reside in the West and Central Kootenay region.
- Employment Counselling: One to one employment counselling is a free service provided to eligible job seekers looking for support with their job search. Employment Counsellors help clients achieve their employment goals by developing the necessary skills and tools to secure and keep work in the local labour market. This program is for job seekers living in the Nelson, Castlegar and Trail areas who are either unemployed, underemployed or precariously employed and not enrolled in school full time.
- Headwaters: Headwaters is a 6-week program providing social, emotional and financial supports and strategies to assist clients on their path to employment. Candidates must be living in British Columbia.
- Career Connect: A 6-week social networking program offering job search support, job placements, industry-specific certifications, and direct connections to employers. Candidates must be living in British Columbia.
