Hospice Society of North Kootenay Lake - Support Services

Provided by Hospice Society of North Kootenay Lake

Hospice palliative care is for anyone facing life-threatening illness.
Offer compassionate care to the terminally ill, the dying, and the bereaved. They do this by providing palliative care for anyone facing life-threatening illness and bereavement services for supporting caregivers/families.

Well-trained volunteers provide confidential support that can include:
  • Phone calls and visits with clients and families to give emotional support;
  • Help with practical day-to-day needs like appointments and outings;
  • Respite time to give at-home caregivers a break;
  • Bereavement support after the death of a loved one.

Families may contact the hospice office directly or ask a doctor, home care provider or hospital staff to contact the hospice on their behalf. Hospice provides free-of-charge support to those in the last phase of life, helping them live as comfortably as possible. Care can be provided at home or in care facilities, in cooperation with physicians and other members of the health care team. Thirty-hour training programs for hospice volunteers are available once a year, with additional training and support available.

Services are offered throughout the Regional District of Central Kootenay, including Ainsworth, Kaslo, Lardeau, Cooper Creek, Meadow Creek, Howser, Argenta, and Johnsons Landing.
