Empowers adults and families living with the effects of acquired brain injury. Serves the West Kootenay Boundary region.
The West & East Kootenay Brain Injury Association is an organization that creates opportunities and builds community. Offering a variety of services, free of charge, in safe, confidential environments throughout the Kootenays. Teams offer support, guidance and education to both the person living with the effects of acquired brain injury and those who care for and about them.

Services include:
  • Assisting individuals with brain injury and their families to access resources to participate in their communities and support their choices
  • Delivering outreach services, one-on-one support, and peer support groups to meet the lifelong needs of members
  • Preventing brain injuries through initiatives to change the risk behaviours within communities
  • Creating public awareness around the effects of acquired brain injury, group learning space where individuals and community groups build skills and relationships
  • Running a storefront in Trail's Waneta Mall where members can display and sell their hand-made creations

The West Kootenay Brain Injury Association serves the West Kootenay Boundary region including Castlegar, Trail, Salmo, Nelson, Grand Forks and Nakusp. With some programs available in the East Kootenay region. Call the Cranbrook office to confirm dates, times and locations of support groups and other activities for the East Kootenay region.

To become and participate in the Association's activities, individuals must be assessed and referred by Interior Health's Coordinator of Acquired Brain Injury Services.
