The Advocacy Centre

Provided by Nelson CARES Society

Provides legal information, education and problem solving for low-income residents of the West Kootenays as well as specialized victim assistance to victims of relationship violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
The Advocacy Centre provides advocacy to individuals as well as workshops and presentations on legal issues. It has long been a voice in the community speaking to issues of poverty and discrimination. The work and materials produced focus on topics such as welfare, family law, tenancy, women’s safety and poverty survival.

Advocacy services are free of charge. There are sliding scale fees for training and presentations.

Communities served - The West Kootenay region, including Nelson, the Slocan Valley, Salmo, Kaslo, Nakusp, Castlegar, Trail and Grand Forks. Staff also travel to Castlegar, Trail, Salmo and Kaslo and provide service by phone, fax and email as required.
