"Healing Our Spirits" Aboriginal Mental Health and Addictions Programs

Provided by Circle of Indigenous Nations Society - COINS

Offers counselling, recovery circles, and cultural support for Aboriginal individuals from ages 15 and above who are dealing with addiction and mental health issues
Services provided:
  • Cultural case management and individual support and counselling
  • Recovery circles in 5 communities
  • Referrals and support to access other community resources and services, including assistance with applications for treatment.
  • Support with connection to the larger Aboriginal community including Aboriginal gatherings, events, and celebrations
  • Cultural consultation and support to Mental Health and addiction workers who are working with Aboriginal clients
Program offers:
  • Support and services to ages 15 to Elder
  • Outreach services that support individuals in their own community
  • One-to-one support as well as group support in a cultural setting.
  • Support and connections to other local cultural gatherings.
  • Support for individuals accessing other community resources and cultural support for case/treatment planning.
Healing Spirits Talking Circle
  • Provides recovery circles in the communities of Trail, Castlegar, Nelson, Grand Forks, and Nakusp twice per month
  • Provides traditional circles that include storytelling, medicine wheel teachings, and ceremony
  • Circle participants can self-refer or be referred by a service provider
