Breathe 1-2-3: Asthma Camp for Kids

Provided by BC Lung Foundation

A camp for asthmatic kids 8-10 to learn how to manage their condition.
BC Lung Foundations’ Asthma Education Camp ‘Breathe 1-2-3’ offers a fun, educational setting for children ages 8-10 (with physician-diagnosed asthma) to learn about their asthma and enhance their management skills from certified asthma educators.

It is a four day camp (offered several times throughout the year) that empowers young individuals to lead healthier, happier lives by helping them understand their condition, recognize triggers, know what to do during an asthma attack, and adopt preventive measures. In addition to learning, kids will enjoy group games, arts and crafts, and a chance to win fun prizes. Breathe 1-2-3 empowers children with asthma to:
  • Prevent asthma flare-ups
  • Recognize asthma symptoms when they first occur; carry out appropriate management steps
  • Discuss, solve asthma-related problems with parents, teachers, medical professionals, teachers, and friends
  • Feel more confident, using everyday tips to manage their asthma
  • Decrease their school absenteeism due to asthma

The camp program also offers a $1,000 travel subsidy for qualified registrants living outside of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Every participant receives a backpack containing ‘Breathe 1-2-3’ educational materials.
